The pomegranate was first cultivated by the Ancient Egyptians; for they do best in climates with long, hot, and dry summers and cool winters. That’s why Egypt provides a very good base for its cultivation resulting in a very high-quality fruit.
It is round and often slightly edged with a smooth, leathery skin of an orange-yellow to dark red in color when ripe. The interior is separated by membranous walls and white, spongy, and bitter tissues into compartments packed with sacs, filled with sweetly acid, juicy, red, pink, or whitish pulp. The seeds, juice, and pulp are eaten, but the yellowish membrane is too astringent.
